5 of our favourite St Patrick’s Day brunch ideas

st patricks day brunch ideas

St Patrick’s Day has looked a little different in the past two years. The worldwide excuse for a party and general knees up has had to downscale – meaning no crowded rollicking pubs, no parades. However, it remains a great excuse to gather a few friends (surely of which one will have an Irish connection) and brunch in the traditional Irish way – that is, good company, good fun and some delicious food and drink to wash it down.

Here in New Zealand,March 17th sees us right in the middle of our annual Kiwano harvest, which means we happen to be blessed with many thousands of very St Patrick’s-themed fruits!

Orange on the outside and with a delicious bright green pulp inside, Kiwano has Irish colours nailed. The pulp makes fantastic cocktails and mocktails, and also looks great layered in brunch pots or dolloped on ice cream. Here are a few of our favourite St Patrick’s Day brunch ideas:

Kiwano Reeves Cocktail

Depending on what time “brunch” means to you, there’s always the option of kicking off celebrations with a on-theme cocktail. This little number is easy to make for a crowd, light and fruity. Omit the gin to make it more brunch-friendly.

Kiwano Smoothie

Kiwano, banana, mango and spinach make this smoothie refreshing and nourishing. Kinda like if Guinness went to Bali on a yoga retreat.

Kiwano Brunch Pots

To make: Get yourself some cute glasses or glass pots. Fill half with your favourite yogurt then pour Kiwano pulp over the top (here’s a handy video on how to get the pulp out). Sprinkle on granola and finish with honey and a sprig of mint (or a four leaf clover).

Kiwano & Avocado Toast

Mash up an avocado with lemon salt and pepper and spread on toast, top with Kiwano pulp (and sliced strawberries if you wish). This would be a great appetizer on small rounds of toasted baguette (or to be 100% on theme, Irish soda bread).

And last (but not least)…Kiwano Detox Water
